Market Study for a Development Bank in The Gambia

The objective of the market study was to assess the existing microfinance sector in Gambia and suggest a suitable intervention model for a Development Bank, also in regard to Islamic Finance.

After the analysis of the legal and regulatory environment, LFS defined the market size and current and potential needs for microfinance based on secondary sources and primary qualitative research. The Consultant analyzed existing microfinance providers and assessed the general contribution of micro and SME finance to economic sectors and employment rates. Based on the market analysis, LFS came up with recommendations on possible interventions.
